Our 1927 Bucyrus 103-C railroad steam shovel was built to run on rails, but it came with a crawler conversion. It has a Johnson boiler and weighs roughly 115 tons. This is what it looked like before we tore into it. That's John Furgason (left), a son of Mike Sapp (we think, center) and Mike Sapp (right) on the boom.

Once we moved the shovel to our grounds, the shovel crew surveyed the situation. As you can imagine, figuring out where to start on the shovel's restoration was a project in itself.
