JANESVILLE & EDGERTON - Labor Day weekend is marked as the scheduled date for one of the oldest and largest antique tractor and steam engine shows in Wisconsin. The 51st annual Rock River Thresheree will kick off on Aug. 31 and last through Sept. 3. The fair grounds will open each day at 8 a.m. and will end around 5 p.m.
Each year the event takes place at 51 East Cox Road on the midway between Janesville and Edgerton, Wis.
The daily schedule includes grain threshing, plowing (with both steam and antique powered tractors), flea market and crafts, Buckwheat and cornmeal grinding, Sorghum cutting and pressing, potato harvesting, antique car and truck display, log cabin crafts, Harry Schell Saw Mill, Blacksmith and Wheelwright shop and the machine shop.
According to the Thresheree website, one of the favorite demonstrations is the pile driver. The demonstration is one of the last known steam operated drivers still in operation, driving 18 diameter logs straight into the ground.
The steam pile driver will be operating on Friday at 1 p.m. and after the parade and on Saturday, Sunday and Monday at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and after the parade.
Participants of the day can also take a ride on the steam powered locomotive. The locomotive circles the park all day.
Also on exhibit will be approximately 30 steam engines and 500 tractors of every size and shape. Nearly 800 different exhibitors show up each year to the showcase.
The annual Parade of Power will kick off at 2 p.m. each day. The parade includes steam engines, tractors, equipment and antique machinery.
Thresheree will also include International Harvester Tractors and Engines, who will be Hosting the IHCC Chapter 4 Summer Farmall Frolics.
The Museum of Industry and Agriculture will be featuring fresh corn meal and buckwheat ground daily.
Each year, the event features an antique car and truck show along with one of the largest flea markets in southern Wisconsin.
The Thresheree will also offer live music in the Pavilion on Saturday, Sunday and Monday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and a church service will be available on Sunday morning.
Food and souvenirs will be available at Thresheree for an additional cost. There will also be ample parking and shuttles.
Admission is $5 for adults and $1 for children ages 6-12. Children under the age of 6 are free.
