THRESHEREE FEATURE -- A steady crowd milled around the tiniest operating steam engine and threshing machine during the weekend as many turned out to view the fifth annual Rock River Steam Thresheree, held at Threshermen's Park south of Edgerton on Highway 51. Another miniature steamer, only twice the size of this one, pulled its owner and builder, Ted McCann, LaCrosse, around the grounds on a small wagon.

The new 20-acre park, which was dedicated Saturday morning, swarmed with participants, visitors and youngsters throughout the holiday weekend. Steam whistles of varying pitches and intensity sounded constantly as proud owners demonstrated their equipment. Stagecoach rides, ponies and all the trimmings of a county fair were available for youngsters while adults watched nostalgically as threshing was demonstrated with old-time equipment.

Participating in the park dedication were Herbert Walter Holliday, Edgerton, master of ceremonies and speaker; Mrs. Paul Pulley and Ruth Reimer, who sang; five Edgerton Boy Scouts who raised the flag. They were Dave Yoss, Dave Spriggs, Jim Sweeney, Allen Pope and Bob Willey. -- Gazette photo
