J. Kenneth Austin, Jerome Elliott and James VanDeBogart were picked for honors at a meeting Wednesday...

Austin, was born May 5, 1912, in Rock County and spent his life serving the community. He was a Janesville Township supervisor from 1948 to 1991, serving as chairman from 1961 to 1975.

As chairman, he adopted the town's first building and zoning ordinance, initiated checks on sewage disposal systems to try to curb pollution, established voter registration and blacktopped township roads.

As president of the Rock County 4-H Fair, he initiated the policy of grandstand acts that didn't require an additional fee.

He was also the leader of Janesville Consolidated 4-H Club for 18 years and a county board member.

Austin was an original member of the Rock River Thresheree and a 40-year member of the Kiwanis Club.
