MONTICELLO -- Fred C. Durtschi, age 68, of Monticello, died on Wednesday, February 2, 1983, at the University Hospital, Madison. He was a retired building contractor and a Monticello area resident since 1937. He was married to the former Lorene Bidlingmaier who survives him. Other survivors include a son, Robert W. of Monticello; two daughters, Mrs. E. C. (Nancy) Aquino of Monticello and Mrs. Philip (Sharon) Knobe of East Troy, Wisconsin; three brothers, William of New Glarus, Arthur of Brownwood, Texas, and Herman of Monroe; five sisters, Mrs. Alice Holz of Monticello, Mrs. Emma Rund of Freeport, Mrs. Frieda Siedschlag, Mrs. Dorothy Lund, both of Monroe, and Mrs. Eda Swanton of Blue Diamond, Nevada; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Alvin of New Glarus, who died February 2, 1981. Mr. Durtschi was active in church and community organizations in the Monticello area, and was a former Fire Chief. He was a longtime member of the Village Board and was currently serving as a trustee. He was a member of the Washington Reformation Church, and of the Lions Club. Mr. Durtschi was a member and exhibitor at the Rock River Thresheree, Janesville. He was a collector of antique cars, engines and tractors. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, February 5, at 11 a.m. at the Zwingli United Church of Christ. The Reverend Steven Pederson of the Washington Reformation Church will officiate. Interment will be in Highland Cemetery, Monticello. Friends may call of Friday, February 4, after 4 p.m. at the Zwingli Church Memorial Lounge, 426 E. Lake Ave., Monticello, and on Saturday from 9 a.m. in the church sanctuary until time of services.
