ROCKFORD, IL -- Walter B. Daer, age 67, died at 7:15 a.m. Wed., Aug. 20, 1997, in Medina Nursing Home, Durand. He was born May 13, 1930, in Rockford, the son of Glen A. and Nellie B. (Budd) Daer. Walter was a lifetime Rockford area resident. He married Nelda Lou Martin in Pecatonica on Aug. 2, 1958; she died June 12, 1995. He was the owner of Roscoe Honey Farm and was self-employed as an organ repairman for several years. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the U.S. Army. Walter was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, a life member of Clifford E. Johnson V.F.W. Post #9759, American Legion Pecatonica Post #197, Disabled American Veterans, Military Order of the Cootie, National Eagle Scout, and Order of the Arrow Brotherhood.

Survivors include a daughter, Marie (Marvin Jr.) Lane of Durand; 3 sons: Donald (Christena) Daer of Janesville, Ralph Daer of Rockford, Mark (Trina) Daer of Loves Park; 5 grandchildren: Kristina, Sara, Nicholas, Austin and Marcus; and a sister, Darlene (Gerald) Larson of Sherorock, NY. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Mon., Aug. 25, at Delehanty Funeral Home Ltd., 401 River Lane, with Dr. Carlyle Smith officiating. Burial was be in Roscoe Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
