Harold H. Mauerman

EVANSVILLE -- Harold F. Mauerman, age 73, died on Mon., March 19, 2001, at Mercy Hospital. Harold was born July 27, 1927, in Sylvester Township, Green County, WI, to John Henry (Hank) and Martha (Sommerfeldt) Mauerman. He attended Sylvester School and Albany High School. Harold and Virginia Fenn were married Aug. 22, 1948, at the Magnolia Advent Christian Church. In 1950, they bought a farm near Magnolia and have lived on this farm for 51 years, first in the dairy and swine business and later raising Champion Polled Herefords with their son and grandchildren. Besides farming, Harold worked at General Motors, Janesville, retiring after 30 years. Harold was a member of Company F, 2nd B. 3 Regt. Infantry of the Wisconsin State Guard and later joined the National Guard Co. K, 128 Infantry. Harold was a past assistant fire chief of the Footville Fire Department, a member of the Cainville School Board, a leader in the Magnolia 4-H Club, a member of the American Polled Hereford Association and the Albany Historical Society. He was one of the founders of the Rock River Thresheree, served as its president, and exhibited his Titan 10-20 every year. Harold had a great interest in antique farm machinery and was instrumental in helping Old World Wisconsin and Nelson Dewey State Park set up their threshing programs. He served as sexton of the Magnolia Township Cemeteries for over 20 years. He was a member of the Magnolia A. C. Church, where he served as trustee.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia; sons: William (fiancee Sylvia Blythe), John (Bev), both of Evansville; daughters: Sally (Tony) Reisem of Evansville and Jeanne (Jay) Johnson of Janesville; grandchildren: Gretchen (Jerry) Bohl, Jayson, Jennifer and Jacob Johnson of Janesville, Tim Mauerman, Matt and Katie Mauerman, Roderick Lynn, Roxanne and Ryan Reisem of Evansville, and Alison and Jayson Blythe of Madison; and great-grandson, Jackson Bohl; a sister, Wilma Pinnow of Brooklyn; a brother, Roy (Delores) Mauerman of Brodhead; a sister-in-law, Dona Mauerman of Monroe; and mother-in-law, Alma Fenn of Evansville. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Melvin; and sister, Florence; a daughter-in-law, Lucia Mauerman; and a granddaughter, Janice Johnson. He was our knight in shining armor.

Funeral services will be held Friday, March 23 at 1:30 p.m. at the Magnolia Advent Christian Church, 14726 W. County A, Evansville, WI, with Pastor Nathan Dean officiating. The visitation will be held at Ward Funeral Home, Evansville, Thursday, March 22 from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Burial will be in the East Magnolia Cemetery.
