Helen E. Shepherd, 78, of Platteville, died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 1999, at the Southwest Health Center in Platteville.

She was born Apr. 8, 1921, at Livingston, the daughter of Bert and Mary Dietzman Warne. On. Feb. 14, 1940, she was married to Wilbur D. Shepherd. He died May 28, 1992. Surviving are three children, Norma (Robert) Mellon of Dubuque, Judy (Dale) Brown of Platteville, and Walter (Mary) Shepherd of Beloit; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Bessie Rinabarger of Barneveld. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Tommy Dobson, a great-grandson, Dakota Heindrickson, and five sisters, Doris Rury, Hazel Warne, Bertha Shepherd, Ruth Fry, and Dolly Kilcoyne.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Platteville United Methodist Church [with Rev. Paul Johnson officiating]. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery in Platteville. [Pallbearers will be Ron Bennett, Larry Fuerstenberg, Robert Shepherd, Loren Shepherd, Mark Henry, Mike Stake, Laverne Fry and Donnie Gerardy.] Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Bendorf Funeral Home in Platteville, and after 10 a.m. at the church on Saturday.
