JANESVILLE -- Walter R. Burkheimer, 75, of Janesville, died Saturday, July 30, 2005, at his home. He was born in Fulton on Jan. 4, 1930, the son of William and Emma (Kersten) Burkheimer, and graduated from Janesville High School. A Janesville resident for most of his life, Walter married Dorothy M. Hergert on Aug. 3, 1950, in Galena, IL. He owned and operated ABC Contractors since 1964. He was a member of the Elks Club, Rock River Thresheree, played semi-pro football for the Delavan Red Devils, and enjoyed playing competitive handball at the YMCA.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; 5 sons: Walter (Deb) Burkheimer Jr. of Clinton, David Burkheimer, James (Susan) Burkheimer, Brian Burkheimer and Jason (Tracey) Burkheimer, all of Janesville; a daughter, Jane Burkheimer of Janesville; 9 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; a brother, Richard Burkheimer of Florida; 2 sisters, Darlene Benway of Janesville and Lois (Bob) Sleaver of Rome, WI; and a special dog, LeRoy Brown. He was preceded in death by his parents; and 3 brothers: Don, Roland and Bill.
