Herman Dale Nienhuis, M.D. (1933-1999) Member #287 Rock River Thresheree Class of 1995 JANESVILLE -- After a brief hospitalization, Herman Dale Nienhuis, M.D., died Fri., April 9, 1999, at Sinai Samaritan Hospital in Milwaukee. Dr. Nienhuis was born in Zeeland, MI, May 14, 1933, to George and Bea (Scholton) Nienhuis. He earned his B.S. degree in Chemistry from Hope College in Holland, MI. In 1952, he married Nancy Conway of Janesville. Herman graduated from the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor) in 1958, where he earned his doctorate in medicine. He completed his residency in Obstetrics/Gynecology at Blodgett-Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, MI. He served as a flight surgeon in the U.S. Air Force attaining the rank of Captain and received a commendation medal for his service. In 1964, Dr. Nienhuis started his practice in Janesville. He served this community for over 41 years, delivering over 6,000 babies in his career. He retired in 1991. While retired, he enjoyed restoring vintage tractors and antique cars. He was a member of the State Medical Association, the American Medical Association, the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Cargill United Methodist Church, Kiwanis, Rock River Thresheree and the American Legion. He will be sadly missed by his wife, Nancy; sons, David Nienhuis, M.D. (Deb) of Brookfield, WI, and Daniel Nienhuis (Marie) of Elm Grove, WI; daughter, Sarah Hodge (Jim) of Elm Grove, WI; brother, Arnold Nienhuis (Lavina) of Zeeland, MI; 6 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Services for Dr. Nienhuis will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tues., April 13, 1999, at Cargill United Methodist Church with Rev. Robert Hays officiating. Interment will precede the service at Emerald Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. Monday at Henke-Clarson-Holzhuter Funeral Home, 1010 N. Wright Rd., Janesville.
