(1915-1997) Member #289 Rock River Thresheree Class of 1995 JANESVILLE -- Walter A. Stamstad, age 82, of 242 S. Pontiac Dr., died Sat. morning, March 29, 1997, at Rock Haven. He was born Feb. 28, 1915, in Black River Falls, WI, the son of Sevart and Marie (Hoagenson) Stamstad. He earned his bachelor's degree at UW-River Falls, and a masters degree in Music at UW-Madison. He has lived in Janesville since 1967. Walter married Ila King on June 22, 1952, in Black River Falls. He was a music instructor for the Janesville schools, retiring in 1980. A member of First Lutheran Church, Walter also served as choir director for First Presbyterian Church for 28 years, was past president of Wisconsin Band Masters Association, past president of Phi Beta Mu, a member of Sons of Norway - Nordland Lodge #522, and a member of the Blackhawk Golden "K" Kiwanis Club. Walter is survived by his wife, Ila of Janesville; 3 sons: Dennis (Nancy) Stamstad of Green Bay, Steven Stamstad of Los Angeles, CA, Scott Stamstad of Madison; 2 sisters, Ruby Stamstad of Black River Falls, and Edna (Gil) Gilbertson of Arlington, VA. He was preceded in death by a brother, Orren Stamstad. Services will be Tues., April 1, at 12:00 noon, at First Lutheran Church of Janesville, with Rev. Kromrey officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at the church. Burial will be in Oakhill Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Little Norway Church, Black River Falls, First Lutheran Church, First Presbyterian Church, or the Sons of Norway - Nordland Lodge #544.
