Donald Gilman "Don" Onsrud

JANESVILLE -- Donald Gilman Onsrud, 84, of Janesville, died on Wednesday, April 20, 2005, at the Select Specialty Hospital of West Allis Memorial Hospital following a short illness. Don was born in Stoughton, WI, on Nov. 4, 1920; son of Arthur and Gladys (Halverson) Onsrud and graduated from Stoughton High School. During World War II, Don served in the U.S. Army and was stationed for 3½ years in the Guadal Canal. He married Jean Holtan on May 29, 1948, in Edgerton. Don was employed for 23 years by Allen Bradley Company in Milwaukee. During this time, the Onsrud's resided in Cudahay, WI, for 17 years. In 1965, they moved to Janesville, and he and his wife owned and operated the Janesville Pet Center on Center Avenue for 25 years. He was an active member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Janesville. Don was a life member of Edgerton V.F.W. Post #2708 and an active member of the Rock River Thresheree Association of Edgerton.

Don is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jean Onsrud; 2 children, Dale (Sherry) Onsrud and Karen (Rick Cronk) Riley; 3 grandchildren: Aric Onsrud, Josie Onsrud and Ellen Riley, all of Janesville; 2 sisters, Joan White of Madison and Betty Brown of Waukesha; a brother Richard (Marion) Onsrud of Stoughton; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant brother, Roger Onsrud.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 25, 2005, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 1422 Center Ave., Janesville, with Pastor Larry Kula officiating. Entombment will be in Milton Lawns Memorial Park Mausoleum with military rites conducted by Edgerton V.F.W. Post #2708. Visitation will be on Sunday from 4 until 6 p.m. at Henke-Clarson Funeral Home, 1010 N. Wright Rd., Janesville, and at the church on Monday from 10 until 11 a.m.
