Industrial accident kills man

An Edgerton man died Jan. 21 in an industrial accident as he worked alone in a machine shop.

Gregory S. Lewis, 33, of 8528 Stebbinsville Road, formerly of LaPorte, Ind., was killed in the accident.

Peter Burno of Stoughton, who was selling the shop to Lewis, said he discovered the body Jan. 21.

It appeared Lewis had been working on a press, fixing a shaft for the Janesville Wastewater Treatment Plant, Burno said.

Lewis was pressing a bearing on the shaft when the base of the press fractured, and the machine fell on him, Burno said.

Dane County authorities, who investigated the accident, could not be reached Friday night.

Lewis had been a member of the Rock River Thresheree, according to information supplied by Essling Funeral Home of LaPorte.
