Every year the Wisconsin Historical Steam Engine Association* (WHSEA) holds their annual Steam School at the Rock River Thresheree grounds. The 10th Annual WHSEA Steam School will be in late September of 2012. Pre-registration is required and the $50 fee includes:
Classroom discussion and hands-on training on full-sized and scale model steam engines will be available to registered WHSEA Steam School students. Topics include:
WHSEA notes: "This class is not intended to qualify you as an operator, but to give you the basic knowledge of steam engine operation and maintenance." An A.S.O.P.E. (American Society of Power Engineers) test will be offered after school on Sunday for an additional cost of $55. This test is optional, not mandatory. WHSEA does provide scholarships for youngsters eager to attend Steam School. Applicants for the scholarship must be at least twelve years old and no older than 18 years old. Though it is not required, a letter of recommendation may be enclosed with the application. Applications must be received by September 1, 2011.
